Up To 300 Aerospace Jobs Threatened In Huntsville

Associated Press

Authorities say that nearly 300 aerospace jobs could be lost in Huntsville as the Marshall Space Flight Center becomes smaller and the U.S. government ends some space programs such as shuttle flights.

The Jacobs Technology ESTS group has notified Alabama state labor officials that jobs for 281 workers could end on or before Oct. 1.

The Huntsville Times reports that Jacobs has been the Marshall Space Flight Center’s primary support contractor for engineering, science and technical services since 1989.

Authorities say the Marshall center is downsizing after the cancellation of the Constellation rocket program that was being developed there and the end to the space shuttle program. Marshall managed the shuttle’s propulsion system.
